International Association of Chiefs of Police
IACP/Motorola Trooper of the Year Award 2016
The IACP Division of State and Provincial Police (S&P) is seeking nominations for the 2016 IACP/Motorola Trooper of the Year Award.
This is a program that recognizes some of the most courageous and dedicated officers in law enforcement. As we all know, the men and women of state and provincial agencies perform remarkable work keeping the citizens of their jurisdictions safe.
The IACP and Motorola will honor the Trooper of the Year, as well as three runners-up. All S&P agencies are urged to participate in the program, which is specifically designed to focus on the outstanding achievements of state and provincial police officers.
The following nominations will be accepted:
• One nomination per U.S. state police/highway patrol agency;
• One nomination per the Canadian provincial police agencies of Ontario and Quebec;
• One nomination per the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico;
• One nomination per each of the RCMP’s four regions.
The below form must be used for all nominations. Please enclose with your nomination any documentation or additional information you believe will assist the judges in evaluating your nominee. Nominations may recognize officers for either a single event or multiple or inter-related events occurring between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2016. The award does not honor a fallen trooper. The nominee must still currently be employed by the agency.
Timeline and Process:
February 15, 2017:
Agency submissions are due to IACP by close of business using this form.
February 22, 2017:
IACP staff will combine all nominations from each region and forward this packet to the respective S&P Regional Chair to then forward on to their region for review and vote. All participating member agencies will have one vote when selecting a regional finalist.
February 22 - March 3, 2017:
During these dates agencies will review and submit one regional finalist to their regional chair. Each Regional Chair will tally the votes and forward their single regional finalist to Nicole LeFort (lefort@theiacp.org) by
COB March 3, 2017.
All regional finalists will be notified by March 8, 2017 of their selection so that they may begin making plans to attend the Trooper of the Year Banquet.
March 6, 2017:
A panel of appointed judges—representing each of the four S&P regions and one judge from a Canadian agency—will review the nominations of the finalists. Members of the final judging panel will be selected from agencies that do not have a finalist in contention. This panel will select the 2016 Trooper of the Year via a vote by
March 15, 2017
.
Award Ceremony
The 2016 IACP/Motorola Trooper of the Year winner will remain secret until the Trooper of the Year Award Banquet at the IACP Division Midyear Conference on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, in Arizona. Each of the finalists and one guest will be able to attend the banquet with flight and lodging expenses paid courtesy of Motorola. Each finalist will receive an award to commemorate their achievement. If you have any questions, please contact Nicole LeFort at lefort@theiacp.org.
